MATERIALS AND METHODS<\/span><\/h3>\n

The uterus and ovaries of 606 Holstein and Brown Swiss cows (9780 kg of milk in 305 days) were systematically examined by ultrasound (7-10MHz) during the 735 inseminations performed on average 83 days after calving (average body score of 3 and average milk production of 35 Kg).<\/p>\n

SOME RESULTS<\/span><\/h3>\n

The increase in milk production, the decrease in body score and the increase in THI at the time of AI contribute to reduce the risk of pregnancy. The amount of mucus present only has a negative effect on the % pregnancy at 30 days (Table). An increase in the amount of mucus (>20 mm) would interfere with optimal sperm migration. The amount of mucus is lower if estrus has been synchronized. It is higher in pluriparous, probably because the mucus is less eliminated due to the more sloping position of the uterus.\u00a0 The amount of mucus is independent of the estradiol concentration.<\/p>\n

MORALITY<\/span><\/h3>\n

The interest of the ultrasound examination of the uterine contents during insemination lies more in its qualitative aspect (identification of signs of endometritis) than in its quantitative aspect.<\/p>\n<\/div>
